HISTORY OF NIRJHAR DAY BOARDING HIGHER SECONDARY SCHOOL
Nirjhar Day Boarding Higher Secondary School was born in 19th April, 2004 as in important component of “DURGAPUR CHILD CITY PROJECT“ conceived by DCAC. Durgapur Child City Project is the concept integrated child development scheme it is builds on 20 acres of land at the centre of the Industrial City Durgapur with a network of education institutions. Centre for performing arts, swimming pool, health centers, auditorium etc. It enjoys the blessings of centre and State Govt. local self Govt., SAIL and maestros in the field of arts, literature & culture. It is the only school system ever built in social sector and its main course are decided through social interaction. DCAC as the promoter of the school takes all steps for mobilizing all logistic social support. Unlike other private institution, the school system is financially self-reliant and not a farthing is indebted to financial institution of-course. Its source of finance is mostly the guardians society, SAIL, Public Bodies and most importantly Hon`ble Members of Parliament. The school has been established in the year 2004 with primary status. We contemplate to go beyond Higher Secondary.
CURRICULUM FOR CLASS-NURSERY – X
The school has classes Nursery to Class-X. The syllabus is created combining the best of the curricular prevailing in India. The pre-primary curriculum is based on a system that makes no distinction between playing and learning. The medium of instruction is English in all classed giving equal emphasis on Bengali. As the school is affiliated to WBBSE, the syllabus of WBBSE as well as WBBSE Exam norms are followed.
CURRICULUM FOR CLASS XI – XII
The school is affiliated to WBCHSE, the school follows new syllabus with subject combinations offered by council with effect from 2013.H.S. Examination will be based only on Class – XII syllabus .
COURSES OF STUDY:
Bengali, English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Computer Science and other subjects are there in the prescribed syllabus. Special emphasis is laid on the practical application of the topics of mathematics and science. Nirjhar is scheduled to introduce the first Mathematics and Science Laboratory in the district at the Primary level.
GAMES AND SPORTS:
Sports and games are an integral part of NDBHSS education that help the students to keep physically fit and also ensures proper mental growth of a child. Various indoor and outdoor activities include Badminton, Table Tennis, Swimming, Cricket, Karate etc. Adventure sports like Artificial Rock Climbing adds special flavour to it. Incidentally, Nirjhar is having the first Climbing Wall in Primary School System. It`s a recreation place for tiny tots where they are taken to the world of fantasy, the world of toys and games. It`s equipped with educations toys, puzzles etc. The park is a beauteous sight with swings, slides, jungle-jims & sees saws where tiny tots have a whale of a time romping about. Up to Class V all the physical and cultural activities are compulsory. From Class VI onward students can opt for their favourite physical or cultural activities.
AUDIO VISUAL EDUCATION THROUGH MULTIMEDIA:
The school uses Multimedia Projection System enabling its students to understand and enjoy the process of learning. Audio-visual education approach is directly related to the actual content of the curriculum and aimed at widening concept about nature and society. The school has introduced SMART CLASS through DIGITAL BOARD first in District in WBBSE curriculum.
The school uses Multimedia Projection System through HCL Digi-School Smart Boards & projection Systems, enabling its students to understand and enjoy the process of learning. Audio-visual education approach is directly related to the actual content of the curriculum and aimed at widening concept about nature and society.
THE SCIENCE MUSEUM:
Study of science advances knowledge about the laws of change and mathematics is an instrument to measure the dynamics of that change in the nature. To assimilate these concepts, the school uses the Science Museum and other facilities are available with DCAC. Nirjhar’s own Science Museum was created by Dr. Saroj Ghosh. under Durgapur Science City Project of DCAC.
COMPUTER AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY CENTRE:
A well equipped computer centre will give a comprehensive exposure to the use of information technology. Nirjhar has a dedicated Computer Lab, Science Labs and its own Science Museum, created by Dr. Saroj Ghosh. under Durgapur Science City Project of DCAC.
LIBRARY:
The library facility is provided from class-II onwards. The library has books on different aspects from India and abroad. The contents and particularly the presentation in these books are such that it attracts students` attention. Nirjhar inspires students to study beyond school curriculum. The school is in process to develop a full-fledged e-Library.
CULTURAL DEVELOPMENT:
Through exposure to activity such as art, crafts, music and dance the school tries to bring out the hidden qualities of the children. An innovative talent magazine published in the school provides an opportunity for the students to find an outlet for their creativity through articles, poems and drawing. The school organizes cultural programmes, art & crafts exhibition, quiz, debate etc. frequently.
HEALTH FACILITY:
The school provides a regular health check up facility for its wards with the help of “Mother and Child Care Unit“under DCAC where eminent physicians of Durgapur lend their honourable services.The School provides a balanced and nutritious Breakfast, Lunch and Afternoon Tiffin to its pupils.
The school provides a wide range of co-curricular activities for the overall development of its students.

Accordingly, its eternal values and universal appeal compel it to keep pace with the heralding age and hovering needs of the time.With this view in vision – Nirjhar Day Boarding Higher Secondary High School (NDBHSS) under Durgapur Children`s Academy of Culture (DCAC), has introduced a unique educational structure with incisive commitment of forming the habits of piety, virtue, discipline and self – confidence reliance in children to help them become good citizen of India. Integration of varied number of features and faculties with the education system has groomed Nirjhar as a natural flow for communicating knowledge.
Day Boarding unique natural coverage, integration with sports, culture and performing arts, application of internet and ABACUS system have together uplifted “NIRJHAR” as an unique system self reliance by itself. It would continue this endeavour this year too. “NIRJHAR“ is though an English Medium School under WBBSE, it has achieved excellent success for upgrading the bright students studied in mother tongue in lower classes.
“NIRJHAR“ has traveled a long way what the great poet and philosophers Rabindranath Tagore had once conceived and carried throughout his life “LEARNING THROUGH JOY“.
